Peter Petrake ☜

Here is one of my favorite recent finds. Peter Petrake is a psychedelic spy comic dreamt up by Spanish illustrator Miguel Calatayud in 1970, originally published in the magazine Trinca and compiled here in book form by Editorial Doncel. It’s fascinating to see the bold, pop-art aesthetics of Push Pin and Heinz Edelmann refracted through a Spanish lens. I especially love the way Calatayud weaves bursts of op-art stripes and patterns into the panels. Editorial Doncel, 1970.
